| Born | September 27, 1942 Marengo Algeria |
I was born in Marengo (see the Albert CAMUS' novel: L'Etranger) Algeria. I'm a self taught painter attracted by expressionism. I began oil in 1988 while living in Tubingen (West Germany)
At the age of 20,I was forced to leave Algeria at the time of the country's independance (1962). From there, I settled in France in 1979, I went to Morocco and rediscovered the quality of the North Africa light. I spent rewarding times with the Berbers, traveled into the Sahara Desert and re-experienced the hallucinating effect of the sunlight in that part of the world. In 1986, I experienced a total contrast in the next step, a move to Germany and passed through a unique mixture of influences. Previously, I played the saxophone while in Algiers and the trombone while in Cannes. In Tubingen I took up the piano and through my interest in music gets hooked on the BLUES. In Berlin, I start working on an extensive serie dedicated to the BLUES include legendary personalities from the beginning of the century to present day artist such as MILES DAVIS.
My penchant for travel and sunny climates lead me to South America (Ecuador, Surinam, French Guiana) in 1991. There I was drawn by the brightness and the Amazonian Indians. This new influence is much closer to the Latin American influence and blends music, ethnology and identity. In 1993, I settled in the Caribbean Islands and inspected Spanish, English and French islands during 3 years in search of light and movement. In 1996 I settled in California. I remain faithful to his chosen combination of colors and inspirations (Indians areas look like North Africa). In 1998, travel in Tahiti to paint the sweet vahines.
Post Expressionist painter and globe-trotter from Morocco to New-Orleans, with my palette-knife and joyful palette of rich ochres, blues, deep ultramarines and glossy fuschias, I invite you to share my spicy taste of life. |
