 | I paint about layers and about places. Spiritual landscapes. Traces of people passing through a life and the spaces they leave behind. Longing and memory. Atmosphere and shadows and colors veiled over one another. Interactions between front and back and past and present. I make intuitive marks and gestures. Charts of thoughts and emotions. They are void of recognizable imagery. These pictures are about the layers far beneath the visible surface.
I start with a backdrop of saturated color and build up. Then draw lines softly or harshly or matter-of-fact-ly. Whatever style best suits the present moment. Affix layers of color and stain. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat to create structures of translucent surroundings. Longing or happiness or distance. Memory and experience.
