Artist's Biography |
![]() Born in Canada and raised both there and in Italy, Cosimo Cavallaro studied fine art in Italy, Canada and the US. His experience has evolved through fine art into film (as a director) but his artistic pursuits remain his first priority. The main thrust of Cavallaro's current work is sculptural and expresses "The struggle between need and desire; the warm security of the womb and the chill uncertainty of the world..." Large (12'x15') fabric structures are embellished with color, texture and applied materials. He metamorphoses pillows: burning and encircling with barbed wire, creating an eerie atmosphere. Entitled "Birth" and "Pillows" respectively, each of these is a powerful series that references poetic meditations of childhood pain and memory.A recently completed steel work entitled "Knot" is comprised of interlocking tubular units, each six inches in diameter. Lately he has been creating installations using cheese. Cheese installations Room 114 and Fashion Icon Twiggy received world wide press. |
