Born in 1967 at Oxford, I was brought up in Scotland. Many of my ancestors were gifted artists and their water colours hung in our house. I was educated at a Waldorf school in Edinburgh but succumbed to ill health in my teens, that jeopardised future professions.
I had started painting water colours as an outlet for my imagination, making my first composition of 'The Edge of the World' after a dinner conversation about the Flat Earth Society.
When I was fifteen, I spent six months with my father in Southern Iraq and made further paintings. I had been told, by several of the world's leading physicians, that I could not live more than a few years. I made a solo journey down the Euphrates river in a home-made canoe, listening to the drums of war from the Iranian frontline. I made several treks with the migrating Bedouins, and was spell-bound by the traditions of the Arabs. My father and I then walked to the foot of Mt. Everest. I wanted to capture what seemed to be a magic, and it filled me with ambition and happiness.
In 1985 I began to paint with a more conscientious aproach, finding it simple, thrilling and that people looked at my products with respect. I started my tours in search of subjects, first locally, then abroad.
In 1989 I made my first motorcycle tour of South & Central Africa, following the Livingston trails and painting from Table Mountain to the Victoria Falls. The Falls were so impressive, I decided to master oils and return to paint them in the 'honour of tradition'.
After serious ill health and a grade 3 coma, I recovered, wrote a novel and returned to Africa in 1993. I motorcycled up from Jo-burg, spent a month at the Falls painting six canvases, but was handicapped by repeated attacks from savages and having an orphaned baboon as a pillion passenger. That same year I sold my first 7'x5' oil of English landscape, and won several comissions.
In 1994 I moved to the Sultanate of Oman, after two further comas and permanent epilepsy. I started painting a 7'x5' oil of the Old Muscat port, spending every day on the site. During a fit, I was assaulted by an Indian barber who smashed a pole over my head and inadvertantly, cured me for life!!!
After a first major exhibition of 100 pictures entitled "Landscapes and Fishes of the Arabian Peninsula" in 1995, I found many clients from the Royal household of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, and The Prince of Yeman.
After learning the Art of performing Magic, more of my time was spent on stage than in the studio. I wrote two more novels, held two further exhibitions before moving from Oman to Cyprus.
