Artist's Biography

It was the year 1965 (the monster craze year) when at the tender age of 3, Steve became introduced to gothic horror and science fiction movies. He would stay up with his mother late at night and watch horror movies, usually about haunted houses, ghosts and monsters, until he would fall asleep cuddled up by her side. His mother, who is a huge fan of ghost stories, hauntings and classic Universa Monster movies, would then carry him to join his already sleeping twin bother. Steve can remember trying to fall asleep and being afraid of the shadows in the room coming to life. He would hide under the covers, shaking, until he finally fell asleep.

In addition to scary movies, Steve would look at the covers of his mother's ghost and gothic mystery paperback book collection in the bedroom they shared. He would get so involved in viewing each and every one of them. He can remenber asking her many in-depth questions about every element of each book jacket which graced the bookshelves. Steve's imagination would then go wild as he would daydream about how his own covers would look if he painted and showed them.

In the summer of 1969, just before Aurora come out with "Frightening Lightning" series, Steve's Nana would take him and his twin bother Stuart, to the dime store (Wolworths), to buy any knid of model kit they wanted. Steve of course picked an Aurora (now Monogram-Revel and Polar Lights re-issues) model kit which was "The Creature of the Black Lagoon" and his twin picked "Dr. Jeckle as Mr. Hyde".

To this day, Steve has been and still is a monster model junkie and is still adding to his collection of dioramas and resin models along with his awards that he wins at model figure shows. He still misses that old Aurora smell that would fill his nostrils as he unboxed his newly bought Aurora monster kit. He wishes to bring back those same plastic and plastic wrap that Aurora once used to "really" bring back those golden memories.

Born on March 30, 1962 at the University of Illinios at Chicago Medical Hospital, Steve became seriously interrested in painting on canvas in September of 1978. He graduated from the American Academy of Art in 1984 and has been painting and freelancing ever since. He says that he hopes his painting talents of the last 22 years will help keep the model industry alive along with other talented model painters in the figure kit business. We need to all work together to keep this industry going and going and going.
